Influence of CFRP bonding angle on the ultimate strength of pitted stiffened plate

Abstract In the safety of ship structures, corrosion damage is an important factor in structural strength attenuation. Hull stiffened plate repair has become very important. In this paper, a method of using CFRP as repair material to reinforce and repair the pitted stiffened plate is proposed. With the help of ABAQUS software, the ultimate strength of CFRP repaired pitted stiffened plate was analyzed by the nonlinear finite element method. By comparing the finite element numerical simulation results with the experimental results, the effectiveness of the finite element numerical simulation ( FEA ) is verified. By changing the bonding angle of CFRP, the effect of different bonding angles of CFRP on the residual ultimate strength of repaired pitted stiffened panels was discussed. Through the finite element analysis, the conclusions are as follows: Bonding CFRP on the pitted stiffened plate can enlargement the ultimate strength of the stiffened plate. While the CFRP bonding angle defined as between the long angle of CFRP and the positive angle of the Z axis of the stiffened plate, is 0 degrees, the CFRP has the best repair effect on the pitted stiffened plate. The larger the angle of the CFRP bonding angle of the stiffened plate, the lower the repair effect on the ultimate strength.
