Experimental research on the interaction of droplets with aerosol particles
Abstract Atmospheric pollution particulate matter constitutes a grave hazard to human health and must be addressed with utmost urgency. Research has demonstrated that raindrops from natural precipitation can effectively capture suspended aerosol particles in the atmosphere. However, laboratory studies on droplet-particle interactions and the collection efficiency of particulate matter by droplets are still lacking. In this study, the high-speed camera and PIV analysis are used to investigate the interaction between the droplet and the aerosol particles, and the collection efficiency of aerosol particles by a single droplet is measured and calculated by conducting particle capturing experiments systematically in an aerosol chamber. The wettability of the particle is considered, and the results illustrate that the wettability of the particle has a significant effect on the collection efficiency of particles by droplets.
