Research on damage characteristics of the afterburning effect based on the structural response of confined spaces
Abstract To know the damage characteristics of the afterburning effect on the structure of a confined space, the afterburning energy was calculated based on the law of conservation of energy. The dynamic responses under explosive loads were comparatively studied. Its results show that, under the action of the afterburning effect, the damage levels at the center and corners of the bulkhead structure increase to varying degrees. The extent of the increase is influenced by the measurement point location and the structural form. At the corners, the peak structural displacement, peak velocity, and peak shock-wave overpressure under the effect of afterburning energy increase by 327.91 %, 253.36 %, and 74.82 % respectively, compared with the situation without considering the afterburning effect. Compared with the case where there is no afterburning energy acting, the energy load exerted by the afterburning effect has a distinct enhancing effect on the structural dynamic response and the internal explosion damage characteristics.
