Dual Band Modified Textile Loaded Monopole Antenna with Bi-Direction Radiation Scheme

This study presents a novel dual-band wearable monopole antenna that is compact, lightweight, and delivers improved gain alongside a reduced specific absorption rate (SAR). Designed for wearable technology, the antenna features a low-profile and durable structure, that many wearable and biomedical components can make use of it easily. Constructed from textile materials, the antenna measures <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$30\times 35\times 1.67\ \text{mm}^{3}$</tex> and operates efficiently in the ISM band at 2.45 GHz and the WLAN band at 5.2 GHz. Its low SAR values of 0.148 W/Kg at 2.45 GHz and 0.121 W/Kg at 5.2 GHz ensure adherence to safety standards without needed for extra layer for isolation, even at a peak transmission power of 0.1 dBm. With its versatile design, this antenna holds significant promise for use in biomedical and other wearable applications with small size and competitive performance.
