CareSync: Synchronizing Care Needs in Real-Time
This project addresses the urgent need for improved communication between nursing home residents and caregivers. Many existing systems are outdated, leading to delayed responses and frustration among both residents and staff. As the elderly population continues to grow, there is a rising demand for a reliable, easy-to-use solution that allows residents to request help efficiently. This project aims to enhance response times, improve resident safety, and reduce caregiver workload by developing a modern call button system tailored to the needs of nursing home residents. The primary focus of this project is to design and develop a user-friendly call button app that enables residents to quickly and easily reach caregivers. The app features a simple smart watch interface optimized for elderly users by incorporating Kotlin for WearOS development and Figma for UI/UX design. It aims to connect to a web platform where caregivers receive real-time notifications, ensuring prompt assistance. The system is designed to streamline communication, making caregiving more efficient and improving the overall quality of life for residents.Extensive research was conducted on existing elderly care technologies. The smart-watch app was determined to be the most effective approach, offering a single-tap functionality for requesting help. It includes customizable buttons for specific needs, such as water or bathroom assistance, as well as a voice message feature for additional communication. On the caregiver’s side, a web-based platform receives and organizes requests, allowing efficient coordination of assistance. The design prioritizes simplicity, accessibility, and reliability to meet the unique challenges faced by elderly users.A functional app prototype is expected along with a market analysis for potential manufacturing and deployment at the end of the project. An initial phase of testing will be conducted to evaluate usability and effectiveness. Ultimately, this system aims to bridge the communication gap in nursing homes, fostering a safer and more responsive caregiving environment.
