RUSSIA AS A STATE-CIVILIZATION IN MODERN POLITICAL DISCOURSE

Aim. To explore the concept of "state-civilization" within the framework of the civilizational approach in political science, to determine whether Russia is a state-civilization. Methodology. Comparative analysis and discourse analysis were used as the main methods of the research. The works of the authors who studied the subject of the civilizational approach were studied, generalization of the existing opinions was presented, problems and contradictions in the discourse on civilization were identified, and prospects for the development of this approach in political science were determined. Results. The results of the study showed that there is a variety of definitions of the concept of "civilization", and the semantic content of the civilizational approach is understood differently by different authors. First of all, this is due to the complexity of the concept of "civilization", as well as the typologization of civilizations and the use of various features in the identification of states-civilizations. At the same time, a number of researchers agree that Russia can be ranked among the states-civilizations, that is, among those structures of the modern multipolar world that influence the formation of its future. Research implications. The specifics of the formation of Russian identity based on the civilizational approach, as well as the prospects for further development of this topic are shown. Special attention is paid to the challenges threatening national identity. Based on the conducted research, it is concluded that it is promising to defend Russia’s historically established position on the rights of a state-civilization, and the article identifies ways to improve it.
