A ESPORTIVIZAÇÃO DA LUTA MARAJOARA NO CONTEXTO DA FESTIVIDADE DE SÃO SEBASTIÃO DE CACHOEIRA DO ARARI
The research aimed to reflect on the process of sportivization of Marajoara Wrestling in the specific context of a tournament held during the Festivity of São Sebastião in Cachoeira do Arari. Methodologically, data collection was conducted through ethnography, which included participant observation, notebook and field diary notes, and document analysis. The results indicate that, in the investigated context, Marajoara Wrestling assumes a condition permeated by the following codes of modern sport: rule definition, scoring system, wrestlers categorization, refereeing system, and awarding of prizes. Conclusively, it is found that Marajoara Wrestling can be reinvented to meet the needs of the community that practices it and interests linked to the sports spectacle.
