Factors Affecting the Performance of Grade - 10 Students in Science

This study aimed to identify and analyze the factors influencing the performance of Grade 10 students in Science at Mayor Ricardo De San Jose Comprehensive National High School, Sta. Maria, Flora, Apayao. A descriptive-correlational design was employed, with a sample of 30 Grade 10 students selected through complete enumeration sampling. Data were collected using surveys and analyzed to determine significant relationships among the variables. Findings revealed that students exhibited high levels of interest and engagement, positive attitudes, and self-efficacy in Science. Significant relationships were found between students’ self-efficacy and parents’ monthly income and between students’ interest and engagement, attitudes towards Science, and their mothers’ educational attainment. There is a significant relationship between students’ attitudes towards learning in Science, their self-efficacy and confidence, and their performance in Science. However, no significant relationship exists between students’ interest and engagement and their performance in Science. Based on the conclusions, recommendations include specialized training for Science teachers, financial assistance for students from low-income families, upgrading of Science facilities, parental involvement programs, and fostering a supportive classroom environment. Future research should extend to other schools to gain a broader understanding of the factors affecting students’ academic performance in Science.
