Fundamental and applied research opportunities on laser wakefield acceleration at ELI ALPS user facility
At ELI ALPS there are two laser wakefield electron accelerator beamlines eSYLOS and ePW. The eSYLOS beamline is a 1 kHz 50 MeV accelerator currently available for external users in the areas of radiobiology and positron beam generation at 1kHz rep rates. eSYLOS is driven by OPCPA systems delivering 40-100 mJ laser pulses having 9-13 fs pulse duration. The ePW beamline is currently under commissioning; it is driven by PW Ti: Sapphire laser pulses of 25 fs pulse duration. The expected electron beam parameters in 2025's commissioning campaigns are GeV-class electron beams at 2.5 Hz rep rate with a full characterization of the electron beams in terms of energy, energy spread, charge, and beam divergence. The LWFA research at ELI ALPS is fully supported with 3D-particle-in-cell simulations.
