Fire Safety Management in Public Hospital: Are We Safe?

There is increasing awareness among healthcare providers about the need to improve fire safety management in public hospitals. Questions about user safety often arise, especially when various fire incidents occur in public hospital buildings. Therefore, this research article aims to study fire safety management in government hospital buildings. 15 respondents from 5 case studies were selected to answer 18 questions related to fire management barriers in hospitals. 9 themes were expressed. Out of the total, 3 themes were found to have the largest deviation. These include inefficiencies in the layout of fire safety systems, fire safety policies and awareness, and fire training among staff. It is hoped that this study can develop a holistic plan for fire safety management standards for existing and future public hospital buildings in Malaysia.
