Project VITAL: Telehealth Innovation for Healthcare Equity in Africa

Project VITAL aims to establish a sustainable telehealth program in Cameroon/Sahel, addressing the dire healthcare needs of conflict and climate-affected regions. Africa facing a projected shortage of 6.1 million health workers by 2030, access to essential healthcare remains a critical challenge. Project VITAL's 3S pillars model—sustainability, safety, and security—will guide the initiative. Sustainability efforts include forming a steering committee, conducting needs assessments, and empowering local stakeholders. Safety protocols will ensure high-quality care aligned with WHO guidelines, while security measures will safeguard patient data and platform integrity. Following a pilot in Yaoundé, expansion to remote regions will address legal, financial, and cultural barriers. Project VITAL prioritizes sustainable partnerships and equity principles to advance healthcare access and empower communities in line with UN SDGs and the African Union 2063 Agenda.
