Efficiency of Thermochemical Treatment in Pharmaceutical Glass Production Under Plant Conditions

Abstract The development of the pharmaceutical glass market and innovative directions for enhancing its properties have been analyzed. The prospects of modifying the composition and surface of glass without increasing product costs has been established. The main types of glass for pharmaceutical applications have been analyzed, taking into account their composition, properties, and possible areas of application. Possible mechanisms for regulating the structure of glass to improve its chemical resistance have been identified. At Malinovsky Glassworks, compositions of container glass and technological parameters for its thermochemical treatment with 1,1-difluoroethane using the method of neutralizing harmful components have been developed. It was established that the provision of polyalkaline and polycationic effects with the content of Σ(Na 2 O+K 2 O) = 13.5 wt. % and Σ(CaO+MgO) = 11.9 wt. % for glass allows to ensure the value of chemical resistance at 371 K of 0.28 cm 3 of a solution of 0.01 mol/dm 3 of hydrochloric acid. The introduction of pharmaceutical container glass into industrial production will provide competitive products for the pharmaceutical, medical, and chemical industries and expand the market for glass container in the direction of environmentally friendly technologies.
