Structural Changes of Aluminum Hydroxide During Leachate Treatment

Abstract The article emphasizes the importance of reducing the negative impact on the environment by increasing the efficiency of leachate treatment of solid waste landfills. The leachate is a derivative of the process of waste storage and decomposition and has an acutely negative impact on the hydro- and lithosphere. The article substantiates the use of the coagulation process to treat highly concentrated wastewater, particularly landfill leachate, as one of the key stages of leachate purification. Coagulation is proposed as one of the key stages of the overall purification scheme. To increase the treatment efficiency, the method of activating the coagulant solution due to magnetic-electric activation was used. Magnetic-electric activation of the coagulant solution is carried out in the reagent activator during simultaneous and sequential activation of the aluminum sulfate solution by a magnetic field and its saturation with anode-dissolved iron. The implementation of such a solution is expected to make a difference degree of the structural and mechanical hydration of aluminum sulfate coagulant and increase the adsorption capacity of aluminum hydroxide. The result of the activation of the aluminum sulfate coagulant is a significant decrease in the colour of the filtrate and an increase in the specific gravity of the solid substance, which is the framework base for the flakes of sediment formed during the coagulation process.
