Enhancing Energy Efficiency in Horizontal Well Plunger Gas Lift through VOF Method Analysis

Abstract This study uses the Volume of Fluid (VOF) method to numerically analyse liquid carrying in plunger gas lift operations within horizontal wells, aiming to enhance sustainable energy efficiency. It focuses on gas-liquid flow and sealing behaviours under different wellbore conditions, especially leakage and factors affecting liquid carrying efficiency. By examining parameters like plunger velocity, well inclination, and ambient pressure, this work provides insights for optimizing gas lift operations to increase well productivity and reduce energy losses. Results show that higher plunger speeds, steeper inclinations, and lower pressures improve liquid transport and overall energy efficiency. This research is crucial for advancing environmentally friendly and efficient natural gas extraction in complex geological settings.
