Diamond XBPM® for feedback control of the X-ray beam position

Abstract Diamond X-Ray Beam Position Monitors (XBPM ® ) can be used at beamlines of Synchrotron Light Sources for the measurement of the beam position and beam intensity. The accurate calculation of the beam position and intensity relies on the precise and fast readout systems for the current signals of an XBPM ® . XANDY, the X-Ray Beam Position Monitoring System by CIVIDEC, measures the beam position and intensity with a resolution of 24 bit and up to 1 MSPS while simultaneously providing a continuous analogue feedback loop for compensation of beam drifts. The measurement characteristics allow to identify intensity fluctuations and beam instabilities. The analogue feedback for beam position control is provided by an integrated PID controller. Initial measurements were performed at the NanoMAX beamline at MAX IV Laboratory [1], demonstrating the monitoring and stabilization capabilities. A slow drift of the X-ray beam was measured and successfully stabilised with the feedback of XANDY. Finally, the linearity of the XBPM ® response to varying beam intensities at X-ray energies of 8.0, 12.0 and 16.0 keV was measured and the results are presented in this paper.
