Improving the operational reliability of centralized heat supply systems

Abstract The article examines the main problems affecting the condition of heat network pipelines, as heat is a cornerstone of human activity, and district heating is a critical infrastructure with the highest reliability requirements. A key factor in ensuring reliability and efficiency is the regular monitoring of the condition of heat networks. The aim of the study was to forecast the reliability of heat network pipelines based on statistical failure rate analysis, as the emergency condition of most heat networks is the main cause of reduced heating reliability. Using calculation formulas and modern technologies that allow for the early detection and prevention of emergencies, the study identified the primary causes of damage in heating systems and the factors that directly influence their reliability. The authors proposed a set of recommendations for further implementation, aimed at preventing emergencies and extending the service life of heat network pipelines. An essential factor for improving reliability is the availability and continuous operational maintenance of backup and primary heat sources. The practical value of the study was identified, covering a range of aspects—from economic efficiency and the resilience of urban or local infrastructure to the comfort and safety of consumers. The research established that to reduce energy costs and operating expenses, it is necessary to regularly replace worn-out components and upgrade monitoring systems, which are key measures for ensuring the stability and sustainability of heat supply systems.
