Study on the impact of lifting and transportation on the performance of undulator

Abstract The Shanghai High Repetition Rate XFEL and Extreme Light Facility (SHINE) is under construction in Shanghai, China. Its initial configuration includes nearly 100 undulators of different types. Completing this task rapidly in the coming years is a daunting challenge. The project team provides technical support, while the suppliers are responsible for processing, manufacturing, integration, debugging, and delivering the undulators to the installation site. After the suppliers meet the specified criteria, the undulators need to be transported from the supplier to the installation site, a process that involves lifting and transportation, which may potentially damage the undulators’ performance. we selected the double-period undulator for lifting and transportation testing, comparing the changes in the undulator’s performance before and after transportation. The results show that the phase error change of the double-period undulator before and after transportation was less than 0.5°, meeting the engineering requirements. This paper provides a detailed overview of the numerical simulation and protective measures for the lifting.
