Actual reserves of bearing capacity of metal columns during the reconstruction of a single-span industrial building
Abstract Improvement of the normative calculation and search for reserves of the bearing capacity of compressive-bending metal columns as part of the cross-section of an industrial building is an urgent task. To solve these problems, the research work included the development of a methodology for calculating a single-span frame, taking into account the joint operation of the columns as part of the frame and taking into account the forms of deformation under the action of an active load; experimental studies of the stress-strain state of full-size columns as part of the frame. Determination of the actual reserves of bearing capacity of columns of frames of industrial single-span buildings during reconstruction was investigated in one of two experiments. This experimental study made it possible to determine the actual reserves of the bearing capacity of columns during the reconstruction of an industrial building, to obtain a reliable picture of the elastic-deformation state of compressed-bending columns, to determine the horizontal displacements of the cross member, to obtain a picture of the operation of the nodes, to investigate the issues of general and local stability, and to identify the actual reserves of the bearing capacity of columns. In the experiment, the columns were able to withstand a vertical load 80% higher than the design level, according to the loads that may increase during reconstruction (permanent and crane). Such a large reserve of bearing capacity indicates the possibility of significantly increasing the load on the columns during the reconstruction of the building.
