Turbulence observation and parameter analysis of the Luzon Strait in the South China Sea
Abstract Based on data observed in the Luzon Strait station in September 2022, this paper calculates several turbulence parameters, including dissipation rate, mixing rate and Thorpe scale, etc. The analysis demonstrates that actual turbulent kinetic energy dissipation rate of the section at 4000m is steady at O (10 -9 ) W kg -1 , and the average mixing rate is 2 × 10 -4 m 2 s -1 . There is a high correlation coefficient of 0.76 between Thorpe scale and mixing rate. The analysis not only contributes to fine structure observation and the mechanism of ocean turbulence evolution, but also improve the turbulence database and spatial feature distribution of turbulence mixing parameters in the South China Sea.
