Numerical study on the environmental performance of optimized spray painting robot

Abstract The recycling of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and paint mist generated during ship painting has become a major difficulty, posing a serious threat to the environment and human health. This study proposes an effective solution for VOCs and paint mist recovery, designed based on the working characteristics of ship automatic painting robots. Therefore, the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) software is utilized for numerical simulations, especially the effects of changes in the porosity of activated carbon and filter cotton under different conditions on the paint mist recovery rate, VOCs emission rate, and VOCs recovery rate. The effectiveness of the system after optimization is evaluated through comparison and analysis, and the feasibility of the proposed scheme is verified. The study can guide the design and optimization of spray painting robots in the field of ship painting.
