Air pollution emission inventory in Ho Chi Minh City seaport, Forecast up to 2050

Abstract Transport activities, including shipping activities, generate significant emission to the environment, typically Ho Chi Minh City seaport has the advantage of connecting to maritime traffic due to long and dense maritime channels and inland waterways. In order to indicate priority sources for management and contribute data to air quality management in this sector, the objective of the study is to determine the status of air pollutant emissions and the main activities causing emission in the Ho Chi Minh City seaport. By applying emission inventory method using data from the Vessel Traffic System (VTS) and other data collected from reliable sources to enhance the accuracy of Bottom-up approach, the result shows that air pollution from shipping activities at Ho Chi Minh City seaports includes 14222.79 tons of SO x , 2210.51 tons of PM 10 2047.94 tons of PM 2.5 , 35750.07 tons of NO x , 4716.54 tons of CO in 2022, of which pollution from mobile sources (oceangoing vessel and harbor craft) account from 67.74% to 99.57%. The result of this study is an important source of input information for modelling air quality and air pollution dispersion under meteorological impacts as well as planning priority actions to reduce air pollution in seaport areas.
