RANGIDOS NA INFÂNCIA: O BRUXISMO E SEU IMPACTO NA ODONTOPEDIATRIA
Bruxism is a parafunctional activity of the stomatognathic system, with a multifactorial etiology and high prevalence, potentially leading to significant negative impacts on oral health. While much has been discussed about bruxism in adults, the consequences of this condition in children can be even more concerning. This literature review specifically addresses pediatric bruxism and the resolution of this issue, which requires strategies that ensure oral, psychological, and systemic health. Evidence suggests that several factors can trigger bruxism, including stress, anxiety, and hereditary factors. This behavior is often a form of avoidance response, as the oral cavity has strong emotional significance. The consequences of bruxism include overload of the temporomandibular joint, cracking of dental elements, and considerable wear of the dental occlusion, which can result in tooth sensitivity. Considering that there are several factors contributing to the onset of bruxism, a multidisciplinary treatment is necessary to ensure better access to the maintenance of the child’s oral, physical, and psychological health. Thus, the approach used in treatment is crucial for the preservation of both oral and overall health in children.
