Analysis of User Behavior in Order to Reduce Energy Consumption through Responsible Innovation
Abstract The worldwide increase in energy consumption presents significant challenges spanning social, economic, and environmental spheres. Governments respond to these challenges by implementing responsible innovation (RI) and participatory governance. A key strategy involves promoting energy-saving behaviors that are recognized for their role in reducing consumption. This paper integrates behavioral intervention variables into RI using the theory of planned behavior (TPB) to predict energy-saving behaviors. In exploring attitudes, subjective norms, perceived behavioral control, and interventions, a survey was administered to 700 heads of households in the southern provinces of Iran. Employing method structural equation modeling, the findings indicate substantial effects, particularly from combined interventions, on developing energy-conserving behaviors. Modifying household consumption patterns, especially in developing countries, is essential for reducing energy utilization. Capitalizing on the capabilities of RI can alleviate crises stemming from power shortages at a reduced cost and with minimal resources. The research underscores the critical role of behavioral interventions in realizing energy conservation objectives, accentuating their fundamental importance in tackling the complex challenges associated with global energy consumption.
