Effect Heat Treatment Conditions on Aluminium Silicon Alloy Reinforced by Al2O3, SiC Nanoparticles on Physical Properties
(Al-7%Si) alloys are the most important of all aluminium-cast materials. They are suitable for all casting processes and have excellent casting. In this study, nanoparticles of Al2O3 and SiC have been added each separately as well as different heat treatment conditions (annealing, normalizing, quenching) have been used to study the effects on mechanical and chemical properties of this alloy. Optical, SEM, EDS, and X-ray diffraction have been used as well as hardness, wear rate, and corrosion rate. Results confirmed that adding nano particles has a positive effect in increasing mechanical properties. Improving in hardness reached 70 %, wear rate of 6.9 and corrosion rate of 5.15 while heat treatment media has a different effect, normalizing and quenching increased hardness to 92%, and wear rate to 8 and decreased corrosion rate to 6.34 on the contrary to annealing.
