Performance of volume and diameter thresholds in malignancy prediction of solid nodules in lung cancer screening

Solid nodules <100 mm3 or <6 mm diameter are not associated with increased risk of lung cancer compared with participants with no nodules at baseline LDCT. Volumetric rule-out thresholds achieve equivalent NPV to long-axis diameter thresholds while encompassing significantly more participants, reducing the number of interval scans required.

Abstract

Solid nodules <100 mm3 or <6 mm diameter are not associated with increased risk of lung cancer compared with participants with no nodules at baseline LDCT. Volumetric rule-out thresholds achieve equivalent NPV to long-axis diameter thresholds while encompassing significantly more participants, reducing the number of interval scans required.
