Mutualistic relation between Formica gagates Latreille (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) and Mealybugs in the forests of Eastern Himalayas

Mutualistic relation between Formica gagates Latreille and mealy bugs are reported for the first time from Neora Valley National Park, West Bengal, India. It depicts the survival strategy of ants in adverse climatic conditions and their capacity to flourish in extreme cold weather, where other insects fail to survive. It also shows the interdependence between fungi, trees, ants and mealy bugs.
