New locality records of the Bare-bellied Hedgehog, Paraechinus nudiventris (Horsfield, 1851) from Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, India
Bare-bellied hedgehogs (Paraechinus nudiventris) are lesser-known insectivorous small mammals endemic to southern India. They are extremely poorly documented and face a variety of existential threats due to human activities. We report three new locality records of Bare-bellied hedgehogs in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu, expanding their known range in the district. These records of direct sightings were made in arid grassland sites at Samugarengapuram, Koonthankulam and Moolaikkadu in Tirunelveli, Tamil Nadu.
