Additional records of Indotyphlus maharashtraensis Giri, Wilkinson and Gower, 2004 (Amphibia: Gymnophiona: Grandisonidae) from Pune District, Maharashtra

Caecilians are limbless amphibians with or without tails in their adult form and are known for their primitive secretive subterranean life. India is home to 41 extant species of caecilians under five genera and three families. Compared to anurans (413 species) caecilians are poorly documented in India. Among 14 species of Grandisoniidae members of India, 11 are described in the last 25 years, and six are known by type series only. Here we report additional records for the species Indotyphlus maharashtraensis from the multiple populations in the northern Western Ghats. The species was described in 2004 and now the distribution range is demarcated with phylogenetic studies and additional morphometric data. Discussions are made on the Extent of Occurrence (EOO) and Area of Occupancy (AOO) for the species I. battersbyi and I. maharashtraensis which are endemic to the northern Western Ghats.
