Research on the integrated transformation of facades based on the open building layer system and progress in subtropical project practice

As urban facilities and resources encounter escalating environmental challenges, enhancing the performance of early low-quality buildings through the renovation of existing envelope. has become crucial for low-carbon socio-economic development. Particularly in subtropical climates, the performance optimization of building envelope retrofits faces higher challenge. Driven by real examples of projects, the study aims to provide a framework of SI tiers based on climate-resilient optimization techniques for the analysis of applicable methods in the retrofitting of existing buildings. The research methodology integrates theoretical analysis and case study, establishing a multi-tiered analytical framework, and conducting in-depth examinations of representative practical cases. The findings highlight that research hotspots in open building theory focus on simulation, sustainable construction, timber frame and construction costs; based on this, a hierarchical approach to retrofitting is proposed; and describes the modularization techniques applied to the retrofit cases under the hierarchical retrofit approach. The study provides a reference for assessing the application potential in building regeneration and sustainable urban development research.
