Management tactics for patients with neovascular glaucoma
Relevance Secondary neovascular glaucoma (NVG) is characterized by the most severe course and requires a systematic approach to treatment [1]. Objective To evaluate modern approaches to the treatment of NVG, allowing to achieve the maximum possible effect. Material and methods More than 50 scientific papers have been analyzed from 2007 to the present. Data on the pathogenesis, modern diagnostic methods and new technologies in the treatment of NVG have been studied. Results Multiple studies confirm the crucial importance of the formation of retinal ischemia and pathological angiogenesis as the leading cause of NVG, which emphasizes the importance of timely anti-VEGF therapy. The combination of existing laser and surgical interventions, such as panretinal laser coagulation, intravitreal administration of anti-VEGF drugs, vitrectomy, cyclophotodestruction, and various modifications of antiglaucoma surgery allows achieving an optimal effect and stability of results [2, 3]. Conclusion A comprehensive approach combining anti-VEGF therapy, laser and surgical methods is the best way to improve the effectiveness of NVG treatment [4]. Keywords: anterior chamber angle neovascularization; retinal ischemia; intravitreal administration of anti-VEGF; panretinal laser coagulation of the retina; neovascular glaucoma
