Innovations as a factor of regional economic growth (using the example of the Republic of Tatarstan)

This article analyzes the impact of innovation activities on the economic growth of the Republic of Tatarstan, taking into account short-term and long-term effects. Based on statistical data for the period 2000-2022, the study examines factors determining the dynamics of innovative development in the context of their influence on the gross regional product. The research methods include correlation analysis, calculation of an integral index of innovation activities, and economic modeling. A comprehensive assessment of the relationship between innovation activities and economic growth was conducted for the Republic of Tatarstan using the ARDL model. The results of the study showed that the impact of innovation activities on economic growth is uneven over time: in the short term, there is a negative effect, which may be associated with the costs of adapting to new technologies, while in the long term, a significant positive impact was revealed. The novelty of the research also lies in the development and testing of an integral index of innovation activities that takes into account the specifics of regional innovative development. The results of the analysis and modeling presented in the article can be useful for developing an effective regional innovation policy aimed at stimulating long-term economic growth. The identified patterns allow for a better understanding of the mechanisms of innovation activities' influence on regional economic development and can serve as a basis for making informed management decisions in the field of innovation and economic development. The presented methodological approach can be adapted for analyzing innovation processes in other regions of Russia and foreign countries. The author declares no conflicts of interests.
