Transporte óseo, una técnica confiable para tratar defectos óseos segmentarios asociados a infecciones graves, a propósito de un caso
Bone transport is a reliable technique for the reconstruction of segmental bone defects associated with severe infections by multidrug-resistant bacteria. Clinical case: We present a case of a 21-year-old patient who suffered a distal fracture of the right tibia and fibula with bone exposure and loss of coverage, evolved with infection by Klebsiella Pneumoniae Carbapenemasa. Intravenous antibiotics were administered as treatment, several surgical cleanings and negative pressure therapy were performed, without improvement, in this scenario it was proposed to perform bone transport with shortening of the leg by 10 cm to eliminate the infected area and facilitate osteogenesis of healthy bone, for this an external monopolar fixator type “Orthofix” was used, completing the distraction in a period of 8 months. Bone transport, also known as distraction histogenesis, is a crucial surgical procedure to correct limb length discrepancies, bone deformities or to reconstruct bones after infections, tumors or severe trauma. Being an effective alternative in the treatment of these conditions, providing additional options to health professionals in these complex scenarios.
