4x2 Microstrip Patch Array Antenna for 5G Mid-Band Wireless Networks

In this paper, a microstrip patch antenna is designed for array-based 5G Mid-Band applications. The antenna is designed to work at Sub-6 GHz Communication in the frequency range of 4.34 to 5.1 GHz, maximizing communication speed, minimizing latency, and improving system performance. The suggested design is a rectangular microstrip patch of size 27.8 mm × 26.9 mm, with four slots (4.06 mm x 3 mm each) for gain improvement. By arranging the antenna in an array of 4 x 2, the gain is enhanced to 9.19 dBi. Simulations were performed using Keysight ADS software. First, a square patch antenna with a 26.9 mm size was tried, and it had a 2.24 dBi gain. When it was shaped into a rectangular patch with slots, its gain was increased to 3.78 dBi. The antenna is constructed over an FR-4 substrate (dielectric constant: 4.4) of 1.6 mm thickness and with an interface thickness of 1 mm. The simulated and experimental results match well, and this verifies the correctness of the design. In comparison to conventional antennas, this design has greater gain and a superior reflection coefficient, thus making it a better option for practical use.
