A Beamforming Demonstrator for Interactive, Student-Centered Learning in Radar Technology
The realm of radar technology often presents conceptual challenges, particularly in the context of educational environments where the abstract nature of wave propagation and signal processing can seem daunting. The Beamforming Demon-strator introduced in this project serves as a bridge between theory and tangible experience, translating the complexities of radar beamforming into a format that is both accessible and engaging for students and educators. Central to this Demonstrator is an advanced digital signal processor (DSP) from Analog Devices, that drives an array of horizontally spaced speakers, illustrating the principle of beamforming through audible demonstration. The sophisticated manipulation of signals allows for the execution of phase shifts through a frequency-independent real-time processing method utilizing Hilbert transformations. This method showcases how, by applying this mathematical technique, a signal's phase is precisely altered over the entire hearing spectrum, allowing for the creation of a directed acoustic beam.
