Improving Healthcare through the Internet of Health Things (IoHT): Continuous Monitoring of Patients, Data Analytics, and Interconnected Medical Equipment
The Internet of Health Things (IoHT) is a paradigm-shifting model for contemporary health care by allowing significant real-time patient monitoring via interconnected medical devices, wearable sensors, and data analytics. The Internet of Health Things (IoHT) technology bring together the advantages of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the healthcare systems, providing real-time, personalized care to patients and healthcare providers with timely and actionable insights. Through the selected literature studies, this research explores IoHT applications in the healthcare focus area, particularly the IoHT's potentials for continuous monitoring of patients' health status, processing large amounts of generated data using connected medical equipment, and improving clinical decision-making. As one of the new frontiers of clinical information systems design, IoHT consists of smart wearables, sensors, and diagnostic tools that capture critical health data in real time and share this information with healthcare professionals (HCPs) and care teams and connect them to enable tailored prevention, chronic disease management, and real-time care wherever the patient is located. By enabling predictive modeling, early disease detection, and personalized treatment plans using data analytics and artificial intelligence (AI), IoHT aims to enhance the efficiency of healthcare delivery. In addition, in the case of medical equipment which is highly inter-connected, communication between medical devices automatically contributes to higher patient safety, lower medical mistakes, and co-ordinated care. The IoHT ecosystem has potential, but it will be susceptible to issues such as data privacy and cybersecurity, interoperability, and heterogeneity issue, and integration of systems heterogeneous.
