High-Performance Optical OFDM System with Single Photon Pulsed Laser and Advanced Amplification for Long-Haul Communication
Improving signal transmission in Radio over Fiber (RoF) systems is crucial for enhancing performance, reducing losses. Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and RoF can be combined to create a high-performing, scalable, and flexible system for wireless and optical communication networks. OFDM divides the available bandwidth into multiple closely spaced subcarriers, each modulated with a lower-rate data stream. These subcarriers are orthogonal to each other, preventing interference and allowing the efficient use of bandwidth, whereas modulation schemes such as Quadrature Amplitude Modulation are used for each subcarrier to increase the data rate. RoF systems combine both wireless and optical links to create heterogeneous networks. The purpose of this paper is to explore the use of a Single Photon Pulsed Laser and assess its effectiveness in providing optimal performance in terms of signal integrity, transmission efficiency, and overall system performance. In particular, the Mach-Zehnder Modulator is employed for external modulation, as it demonstrates more reliable performance when combined with the OFDM modulation technique.
