Accurate Vital Signs Detection using SWD-VMD algorithm

Accurate respiratory and heartbeat detection helps to monitor the physical health status of the human body in a timely manner. This paper proposed a swarm decomposition-variational mode decomposition (SWD-VMD) algorithm to accurately decompose vital sign signals into multiple modal components, addressing the difficulty in separating respiratory harmonics, noise, and heartbeat signals. Then, correlation coefficient is used to screen the relevant modal components, in order to achieve the reconstruction of respiratory and heartbeat signals. The experimental results have shown that the proposed SWD-VMD algorithm is more accurate in detecting vital signs compared to the EEMD, VMD and SSA-VMD algorithms. The experiments proved the feasibility of the proposed algorithm in detecting vital signs.
