Combining CDIO and Challenge-Based Methodologies to Enhance and Complement Curricula in Industrial Engineering: A Case Study Combining Acoustics and AI
This paper presents a case study that shows how to combine a CDIO framework and challenge-based methodologies to enhance the curriculum content of a postgraduate engineering program while providing a learning environment better suited to today's students' expectations and industry needs. We present the design of a one-year course where students team-up to solve a challenge that requires combining acoustics and AI to conceive, design, develop and operate (CDIO) a working prototype of an innovative product or service. The course is structured in three modules to combine the technical, personal and interpersonal skills required to develop a product or system in any professional environment, therefore including also a broad sustainability impact assessment that covers the economic, environmental and social dimensions of the projects.
