Case study in the preparation of future graphic designers for the design of design objects using digital technologies

The article reveals the problem of using case studies as a teaching method and format for presenting information, the result of designing a design object in the process of mastering digital technologies by future graphic designers. It is established that a case study in the form of a description of a situation that contains a problem for discussion (with an orientation to the content of professional activity) is considered a pedagogical technology and a method characterized by practice-orientedness, problematic presentation, and interactivity. Two approaches are indicated regarding the number of solutions a case can have (a single solution and multivariate alternative solutions). The results of the analysis of the potential of using case studies in preparing future graphic designers for designing design objects using digital technologies are presented, in particular, taking into account the need to form a designer's portfolio. It is summarized that a case study is an effective marketing strategy for building trust, inherent in various fields of activity, focused on its internal processes. A case study is considered a type of presentation in a portfolio of projects completed by a graphic designer to demonstrate to a potential client the way to solve a problem during the design of a design object, with a shift in emphasis from the visualization of the final design result to the process of achieving the goal itself with the reasoning behind the decision-making. The structural components of a case study (the introductory part with a description of the parties involved; problem formulation (brief); outlining the approach to solving the problem (from the use of sketches, search descriptions to the reason for selecting a solution and digital technology tools); demonstration of the final result; formulation of conclusions regarding the prospects for improving the project), advantages and disadvantages inherent in thematic research are clarified.
