Demonstration of high-peak power-passive coherent beam combining with solid-state amplifier
The high peak power of a single laser beam will be restricted by factors such as the optical damage and manufacturing limitations of the amplifying medium and so on. Coherent beam combining (CBC) is a promising technique to overcome these limitations and enable higher output power. In this work, we propose and develop a passive CBC optical system, where the optical path lengths of split laser beams are passively matched. To achieve higher peak output, we employ Ti: Sapphire crystals as the amplifying medium, which can support broadband spectra, leading to short pulse duration. We have achieved ~0.7 TW peak power. We will report on the detailed characteristics of our newly constructed CBC system.
