Giant fibrovascular polyp of the esophagus revealed by oral exteriorization. A case report and literature Review
The fibrovascular polyp of the esophagus is an extremely rare benign tumor, few cases have been described in the literature. It remains a spectacular entity because of its tendency to cause complications, the most dramatic remains asphyxiation by regurgitation of the polyp. We report the case of a 65 year old woman patient with a long history of minimal dysphagia who had a polyp externalized through the mouth causing difficulty of breathing and requiring urgent reduction with manual maneuvers. The diagnosis of a giant fibrovascular polyp of the esophagus was made subsequently to the data of CT-scan and the endoscopic appearance of a large and pedicle polyp implanted in the cervical esophagus and performing an extended mass whose histological study of endoscopic biopsies were also consistent. Surgical or endoscopic resection according to the lesion size and location of the pedicle, conceivable if cumbersome dysphagia or according to the risk of regurgitation and asphyxiation allows the radical cure. Our patient has been proposed for surgical treatment.
