ABSTRACT This article proposes to teachers and educators, especially in Early Childhood Education, the importance of observing and assessing development in early childhood. It is important to emphasize that it is crucial for all professionals and caregivers involved with children to pay attention to this stage of development, which includes the period from birth to six years of age. It is widely recognized that each child has their own pace of development, which, in fact, corresponds to reality. However, this time must be observed within the expected stages in the four fundamental domains, which involve physical/motor, cognitive, social and socio-emotional transformations. Understanding the milestones of child development is essential for everyone involved in the care and education of children, since this knowledge supports pedagogical practices based on consolidated theories, in order to ensure a healthier and more meaningful learning process. Furthermore, it is important to highlight the importance of constant dialogue with families, offering them security and guidance.
