Impact of Flooding on Rural Livelihoods: A Study in Daspur-I Block, Paschim Medinipur
Flooding poses significant socio-economic challenges for rural communities, particularly in flood-prone regions like Daspur-I Block, Paschim Medinipur. This study examines the impact of recurrent floods on rural households, with a focus on economic disruptions, agricultural losses, and adaptive strategies employed by local communities. Using document analysis, the research systematically reviews government reports, policy documents, research articles, and historical flood records to assess the extent of damage and the effectiveness of existing mitigation measures. Findings indicate that frequent flooding leads to income instability, reduced agricultural productivity, and forced migration, exacerbating rural vulnerability. The study also highlights various adaptation strategies, including modified farming practices, infrastructure development, and community-based resilience initiatives. However, gaps in policy implementation, delays in financial aid, and inadequate long-term planning hinder effective flood management. This research contributes to a better understanding of the socio-economic implications of flooding and offers insights for developing more robust and localized disaster response strategies.
