Service-Learning as a Career Guidance Practice. Reflections from Tutors of the "An Assist Towards Success” Project: A Thematic Analysis
This study examines the role of tutors in the service-learning project "An Assist Towards Success," implemented by the University of Turin. The project pairs university students from the Educational Sciences bachelor's program with disadvantaged middle school students to offer homework support. Through supervision sessions and reflective assignments, this research explores the challenges tutors faced, the strategies they employed, and the skills they developed. A thematic analysis of supervision reports and reflective tasks identifies three main outcomes: professional growth, the importance of educational relationships, and the value of collaboration. The findings highlight the potential of service-learning to enhance not only academic and social responsibility but also serve as a transformative practice for career guidance. This paper emphasizes the critical role of supervision and reflection in service-learning, framing these elements as essential for students' personal and professional development.
