Fluid Flow and Mixed Convective Heat Transfer Analysis in a Channel With an Elliptic Porous Object

ABSTRACT In this work, we consider steady mixed convective laminar incompressible viscous fluid flow over a backward‐facing step with an elliptic porous object positioned at the downstream channel. The governing equations of the physical phenomena are modeled while considering the effect of the thermal buoyancy force and using the Darcy‐Brinkman porous model. These equations are made nondimensional through dimensionless variables and are numerically simulated. Analyses are presented with isotherms, streamlines, pressure fields, and temperature fields showing flow and heat transport characteristics. Temperature and velocity fields increase for higher Grashof numbers at a fixed low Reynolds number. Streamlines are smooth at low Reynolds numbers, while recirculation zones are developed at higher Reynolds numbers. Isotherms exhibit a more extensive spread against higher Grashof numbers. The average rate of heat transfer increases with augmented Reynolds number and Grashof number. The present results are validated for accuracy with results in the existing literature, which shows close agreement with each other.
