El andaluz y el canario en el columnismo lingüístico meridional

Based on the concept of linguistic ideology and methodological proposals for discourse analysis, in the following article we analyze a corpus of columns on language published in the Spanish press from 1977 to 2023 by authors representing Atlantic Spanish -specifically Andalusian (Vaz de Soto, Luis Cortés and Lola Pons) and Canarian (Humberto Hernández)-. The aim is to analyze the themes and argumentative mechanisms on which the discourse on Andalusian and Canarian modalities is based in linguistic columnism throughout the more than forty years that the Spanish Constitution has been in force. To this end, firstly, we have carried out a quantitative analysis that reveals the importance for these columnists of the topic of their respective modalities within the other linguistic topics dealt with in their columns. Secondly, we have established the commonalities and differences in the way the topics are approached. The study shows the unquestionable role of linguistic columnism as a discursive tradition for the dissemination and dignification of the southern modalities of Spanish.
