Ethosomes - an innovative method for drug delivery systems
Ethosomes are flexible nanovesicles made from phospholipids and contain ethanol. As a type of vesicular system, Ethosomes offer several benefits. Their bilayer structure, which includes both aqueous and lipid components, enhances the bioavailability of both hydrophilic and lipophilic drugs. The increased ethanol content provides stearic sta bility, enabling the encapsulated drug to penetrate deeper skin layers with high transdermal flux and through the stratum corneum. Ethosomes are considered the most effective carriers for topical drug delivery because they can encapsulate a variety of phar macological molecules with different levels of lipophilicity and hydrophilicity in a non - irritating and more stable manner compared to other previously developed vesicular systems. This overview discusses the concept, preparation methods, composition, type s of Ethosomes, mechanism and their advantages and disadvantages, along with recent diseases they address .
