Academician N.V. Chersky - an outstanding scientist, founder and director of The North Mining Institute of Siberian Branch of RAS

The article presents a brief biography of Hero of Socialist Labor by Academician Nikolai Vasilyevich Chersky, an outstanding scholar in the field of mining and geological science. The paper gives the information about his life, production and scientific activity in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), his role in the management and development of the Yakutsk branch-office of the Siberian Branch (SB) of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1953 to 1988. The historical aspects of the emergence and development of academic mining science in the city of Yakutsk and the formation of the first and only, currently, academic institution of mining profile on the vast territory of the North-East of the country - the N.V. Chersky Institute of Mining of the North SB RAS.
