Stress, cardiometabolic diseases and chronic kidney disease: the relationship and practical solutions

Cardiometabolic diseases, which include cardiovascular diseases and metabolic disorders such as type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM), are the leading cause of mortality worldwide. The prognosis depends on risk factors (RFs), the combination of which has a multiplicative effect. The war in Ukraine has exacerbated this problem, as chronic stress is a powerful RF of cardiovascular diseases. War-related stress automatically places a person in a higher risk category. The article provides an overview of current recommendations for the treatment of patients with cardiometabolic diseases and chronic kidney disease (CKD). The importance of maintaining adequate therapy and disease control even in difficult conditions is emphasized. Early detection of deterioration, effective control of RF, use of modern medications, and treatment of concomitant psychiatric disorders are key to improving the quality of life of patients with cardiometabolic diseases.
