Blockchain enabled architecture for data privacy preservation in the metaverse environment

Metaverse applications are rapidly expanding, leading to an increasing number of users and avatars interacting in virtual environments. However, this growth has also introduced significant data privacy and security challenges such as data tampering, unauthorized data access, misuse of avatar digital footprints, false data injection, deepfake attacks etc. The current centralized implementations of metaverse platforms do not cater to the data privacy and security and access controls. Literature has suggested a few solutions to address these. In this paper, we have evaluated the solutions proposed in the literature. We have proposed a novel system using ciphertext policy attribute-based encryption (CPABE) and Hyperledger Fabric Blockchain ensuring secure data sharing in metaverse environments. We have evaluated the feasibility of the proposed solution through experiment and results. Experimental results evaluate the scalability of our system, analysing encryption, decryption, and transaction performance as the number of attributes and nodes increases. Our findings confirm that the proposed solution enhances privacy, access control, and data security in metaverse environments, addressing key gaps in existing approaches.
